EDMOND (Oct. 29) – Not much went right for Central Oklahoma in its exhibition opener Tuesday night at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos misfired from close range, long distance and everywhere else during a 75-67 loss to Oklahoma Baptist in a sloppy contest that saw the two teams combine for 64 fouls and 85 free throws.

"It was kind of an ugly game and we weren't very sharp on offense," head coach Guy Hardaker said.  "We got off a lot of shots, but probably took too many threes.  We outrebounded them, we had more second-chance points, we had less turnovers, but we didn't shoot it very well.  It's a start and we'll get better."

UCO struggled all night with its shooting and made just 24.7 percent of its field goal tries, hitting 18-of-73 attempts.  The Bronchos were a paltry 10.3 percent from 3-point range, making 3-of-29 shots from beyond the arc.

Sophomore transfer Julia Mason paced UCO with 17 points, while Jill Bryan had 15 points and nine rebounds and Haley Weathers 14 points and eight boards.

The Bronchos got off to a solid start and led 11-5 lead six minutes into the game after back-to-back buckets by Mason and Whitney Dunn.  The Lady Bison responded with an 18-4 run to take the lead for good as UCO missed eight straight shots, getting only four free throws during a seven-minute stretch than ended with OBU on top 23-15.

The Lady Bison went on to take a 39-29 halftime lead and opened the second half with a 3-pointer to make it 42-39 before UCO tried to rally.  Mason had five points and Dunn four in a 13-0 spurt that cut the deficit to 42-39, but the Bronchos missed eight consecutive field goals as OBU stretched its lead back to 12 at 55-43.

UCO got back to within five (68-63) on two Bryan free throws with 1:44 remaining, but couldn't get any closer.

The Bronchos wrap up their exhibition schedule next Tuesday with a 7 p.m. contest in Norman against Division I power Oklahoma before opening the 2013-14 season for real Nov. 8-9 at the St. Edward's Classic in Austin, Texas.
