EDMOND (Oct. 19) –
An offsides call negated what appeared to be the game-winning goal late in the second overtime and forced No. 18-ranked Central Oklahoma to settle for a frustrating 1-1 tie with Northeastern State Friday afternoon at Tom Thompson Field.

The Bronchos were starting to celebrate when Kimberly Linder took a Brittany King pass and headed in a goal at the 103:58 mark to break the stalemate, but UCO was whistled for offsides to keep the game tied.

It ended that way after Central missed three other scoring chances in the final four minutes.

“We had plenty of opportunities to score and got close a bunch of times, but just couldn't punch it in,” said UCO coach Mike Cook, whose team outshot NSU 19-8.  “I thought we controlled most of the game and unfortunately we didn't come out with the win.”

It was the third tie of the season for the Bronchos, all in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.  UCO is now 12-1-3 on the year and 7-0-3 in the league, while the RiverHawks moved to 9-4-1 and 5-4-1.

NSU jumped on top early in the regular season home finale, scoring 16:38 into the contest.

It stayed that way until the 50th minute when Alyssa Anderson tied it up, knocking in a shot from 25 feet out after receiving a perfectly timed pass from Elle Aston.

The Bronchos had several chances to take the lead the final 20 minutes of regulation, including a trio of shots by Summer Grantham that were just off the mark.  Miranda Thorne almost put in the game winner with 19 seconds left, but NSU goalkeeper Maggie Kloza made a spectacular diving save to send the game into overtime.

Kate Foran had the best scoring chance for UCO in the first extra period, while Thorne, Linder and Caitlin Bond had legitimate shots at the game-winner in the second OT.

The Bronchos play their final two regular season games on the road, going to Washburn on Oct. 26 and Emporia State on Oct. 28.
