EDMOND (Sept. 7) –
A demoralizing goal in the final seconds of the first half put Central Oklahoma in a hole it couldn't recover from and the Bronchos went on to drop a 3-0 decision to No. 24-ranked Abilene Christian Wednesday afternoon at Tom Thompson Field.

UCO hung with the unbeaten Wildcats (3-0) most of the first half, but ACU pushed its lead to 2-0 with just six seconds left and the Bronchos had no answer in the final 45 minutes of the home opener.

The Wildcats dominated the second half, outshooting UCO 11-0 and adding their final goal in the 67th minute. The Bronchos, now 0-3, return to action Saturday when they host Southwest Baptist at 5 p.m.

“We played fairly well most of the first half and then give up a cheap goal right at the end that just killed us,” UCO coach Mike Cook said. “We didn't do much of anything in the second half and need to get things turned around quickly.”

The Bronchos once again struggled offensively, managing just four shots in the contest. UCO's lone shot on goal came in the opening 40 seconds when Brittni Walker's boot from 15 feet away went high and over the net.

ACU broke the scoreless deadlock at the 32:25 mark on a great shot by Krysta Grimm and the Wildcats made it 2-0 when Andrea Carpenter scored from 18 feet just before the first-half buzzer.

The Wildcats finished with a 17-4 shot advantage, including 11-1 in shots on goal.
