UCO Keeps On Rolling

Julia Shviadok
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (April 14) – Central Oklahoma continued its late-season surge with a 9-0 thumping of No. 41-ranked Drury here Thursday.

The Bronchos stretched their winning streak to seven straight with the rout, improving to 16-8 with the ninth win in 10 outings. UCO was scheduled to wrap up the regular season with three more matches in the Springfield area this weekend, but will instead end with an 11 a.m. match Friday against Southwest Baptist.

“We came out strong after being on the road for five hours,” UCO coach Natalya Nikitina-Helvey said. “We played confident and took care of business. Hopefully we can continue our winning streak with another regional match against Southwest Baptist.”

The Bronchos started the shutout with a sweep of the three doubles matches, picking up identical 8-2 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 along with a default at No. 3.

Julia Shviadok rallied for a 2-6, 7-6, 10-3 win at No. 1 singles, with Eli Abramovic, Lacy Caldwell, Anto Rossini and Rose Cabato all picking up straight-set victories while Meredith Marney won by default at No. 6.

UCO will help host the Lone Star Conferene Championships next week, with that two-day tournament set for April 22-23 at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
