Bronchos Go 2-2 In Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Central Oklahoma split four matches at the West Florida Classic, winning two routs while falling to a pair of top-five NCAA Division II powerhouses.

The Bronchos opened with a 7-2 loss to No. 5-ranked and host West Florida, rolled over Valdosta 8-1, dropped a 9-0 decision to No. 2 BYU-Hawaii and finished with a 9-0 shutout of Alabama-Huntsville.

“West Florida and BYU-Hawaii were a little too tough for us to handle, but those two matches helped us,” UCO coach Natalya Nikitina-Helvey said. “In order for us to compete with those teams we had to really elevate our level of play and I think our girls were surprised they could hang with such tough players and have great rallies.

“And I was pleased that we took care of business in our other two matches. It was a good trip for us.”

The Bronchos, now 8-7 on the season, return to action March 22 when they go to Ada to take on Lone Star Conference rival East Central.
