KINGSVILLE, Texas (March 11) --
Short-handed Central Oklahoma was limited to four hits and dropped a 9-3 Lone Star Conference decision to Texas A&M-Kingsville here Friday night.

The game was tied 2-2 before the Javelinas took the lead for good with a three-run fourth.  The Bronchos got within 5-3 in the fifth, but TAMUK scored one in the sixth and then put the game away with a three-run eighth.

UCO fell to 6-11 overall and 3-10 in the league with the loss, while the Javelinas improved to 11-7 and 8-5.  The two teams meet again for an afternoon doubleheader Saturday.

"We sat out six starters because of a violation of team rules and I was pleased with our back ups," head coach Dax Leone said.  "I like the way they competed as a team."

UCO took a 1-0 lead in their initial at bat when Ryan Schoonover drew a lead-off walk, went to second on Corey Hawk's sacrifice bunt and scored on Austin Rycroft's double.

TAMUK came back to tie it in the bottom of the first and went ahead 2-1 in the second, with the Bronchos making it 2-2 in the top of the third on Derik Grimes' two-out solo home run.

The Javelinas pushed across three runs in the fourth to go up 5-2 and UCO got its final run in the fifth on Schoonover's lead-off homer.

Grimes had two of UCO's four hits.
