EDMOND (Feb. 18) –
Central Oklahoma succumbed to one late-inning rally and fell behind during another as the Bronchos took on Cameron in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader Friday that saw the second game postponed because of darkness.

The Aggies scored four runs in the sixth inning of the opener to claim a 5-2 victory and pushed across three runs in the top of the eighth to take an 8-5 lead in the nightcap before that game was stopped.

The two teams will resume play in the postponed second game at 1 p.m. Saturday before playing the regularly scheduled nine-inning contest.

“We battled hard in the first game and just fell short,” said UCO coach Dax Leone, whose team fell to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the league with the loss. “We left too many guys on base (nine) and didn't take advantage of enough scoring opportunities.”

The Bronchos used single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to overcome Cameron's 1-0 lead in the opener, but couldn't hold on at the end.

UCO tied it in the fourth when Tyler Hancock led off with a single, went to second on Derik Grimes' walk and scored on Keegan Morrow's double. The Bronchos broke the deadlock the next inning as Ryan Schoonover singled and scored the go-ahead run on Tucker Brown's double.

The Aggies managed just two hits in their big four-run sixth inning, but took advantage of three walks, two hit batters and a key error to regain the lead 5-2 and UCO couldn't answer back.

Jordan Stern threw well in going the first five innings, giving up four hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out nine. The Bronchos used four pitchers the rest of the game.

Tucker Brown, Hancock and Morrow had two hits apiece to lead a nine-hit attack.

UCO overcame an early 2-0 deficit in the second game, getting three runs in its initial at bat and another in the second to go on top 4-2. Cameron scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take a 5-4 lead, but the Bronchos tied it in the seventh on Tucker Brown's pinch-hit sacrifice fly.

The Aggies answered right back in the top of the eight, scoring three runs on three walks, two hits and an error to move in front 8-5 and had the bases loaded with one out when the game was stopped.
