EDMOND (Sept. 24) --
Dominating defense came to the rescue for Central Oklahoma again Thursday night at Wantland Stadium as the streaking Bronchos tied a school record with their sixth consecutive shutout in a 1-0 whitewashing of NAIA No. 18-ranked and previously unbeaten Oklahoma Christian.

The Lady Eagles entered the contest averaging more than 17 shots and 2.4 goals a game, but UCO allowed just six shots and Megan Riley had three saves to keep the Bronchos perfect (6-0) in the rivalry.

Katelyn Cropp had the lone goal of the game in the 22nd minute as UCO improved to 6-3-1 while dropping the Lady Eagles to 6-1-1.

"It was another great defensive effort, but we aren't playing with the offensive consistency we need," UCO coach Mike Cook said.  "Oklahoma Christian has a good team and I'm happy with the win.  We've made a lot of progress in the last three weeks and just want to keep it going."

Neither team did much in the first half, with UCO taking three shots and the Lady Eagles one, but the Bronchos took advantage of their best opportunity.  That came at the 22:05 mark when Cropp took a corner kick from Stephanie Fleig and booted in her third goal of the season to break the scoreless deadlock.

UCO held an 8-5 shot advantage in second half and Riley had all three of saves as the Bronchos kept OC at bay to finish off their record-tying win.

The Bronchos open Lone Star Conference play Sunday at Northeastern State and return home Tuesday to host league rival Southwestern Oklahoma in a 7 p.m. contest at Wantland Stadium when UCO will attempt to set an NCAA Division II attendance record.
