LAWTON, Okla. (April 14) – Julia Shviadok, Elizabeta Abramovic and Lacy Caldwell all rallied for crucial three-set singles wins to lead No. 28-ranked Central Oklahoma to a 7-2 Lone Star Conference triumph over Cameron here Thursday.
The Bronchos won two of the three doubles matches to grab an early 2-1 lead and took five of the six singles bouts, including the three come-from-behind wins.
Shviadok pulled out a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 2, while Abramovic prevailed 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 in her fourth three-set battle in five matches and Caldwell won 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5. UCO also got singles wins from Julie Vo and Amy Cabato, with Vo winning her seventh straight match and Cabato rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 shutout.
Vo and Cabato teamed up for their seventh consecutive win at No. 3 doubles, with Shviadok and Abramovic winning at No. 2 as the Bronchos took the early lead.
UCO improved to 12-6 with its seventh win in eight outings and finished league play at 4-3. The Bronchos end the regular season Wednesday, hosting Newman at 2:30 p.m.
“It was an intense match and I think both teams really put everything on the line,” UCO coach Natalya Smith said. “Our doubles has been a key for us this season and I'm glad we were able to win two at the beginning of this match.
“Cameron came out strong in singles, but I was proud to see how my worked hard every point to turn things around and didn't let emotions throw us off. We're really pleased to finish conference play with a winning record and are looking forward to the conference tournament.”
UCO goes to Wichita Falls, Texas next week for the LSC Tournament.
