Bronchos Net A Win

Lacy Caldwell

EDMOND (Feb. 22) – Wins in two of the three doubles matches proved to be the difference for Central Oklahoma here Sunday afternoon as the Bronchos opened their home season with a tough 5-4 win over Cowley County Community College.

UCO led 2-1 after the three doubles bouts and then got singles wins from Audrey Donovan, Lacy Caldwell and Elizabeta Abramovic to pull out the hard-earned victory.

Abramovic was the lone double winner for the Bronchos, teaming with Julia Shviadok for a key 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.  Julie Vo and Amy Cabato claimed the other doubles win with an 8-1 rout at No. 3.

“It was a tough match for us and I'm glad we got this win here at home,” UCO coach Natalya Smith said.  “We didn't play our best game, but we'll learn a lot from this match. We've been struggling with a few injuries on the team and hopefully we'll be recovered by the end of the week.”

The Bronchos, 2-1 on the young season, got to Seminole State College Tuesday before traveling to Missouri this weekend for matches with Missouri Southern and Drury.
