Central Oklahoma Listed As Favorite In MIAA Preseason Coaches' Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma was picked first in the 2026-27 MIAA Men's Golf Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league announced Thursday.

The Bronchos won back-to-back MIAA titles in 2025 and 2026 and have won five league titles since joining the league in 2012.

"We've got a lot of work to do and the championship in April is a very long time from now," UCO head men's golf coach Derrick Thompson said. "We do have a good lineup and qualifying has been competitive so far in the first couple of weeks. But we're honestly only focused on the first tournament right now."

Central Oklahoma begins the 2026-27 season next week. The Bronchos go to Warrensburg, Missouri for Central Missouri's season-opening tournament, The Mule. The two-day event will be played Tuesday and Wednesday following Labor Day at Mules National.

Thompson returns six players from last year's squad, including three-time All-American Nick Canales. The senior is back for his fourth season at Central Oklahoma and is aiming to just the third four-time All-American in school history.

Rhett Hughes and Bryant Polhill are also back this year after earning All-MIAA honors in 2025-26. Ty Hyatt, Brock Jerman, and Andrew Talburt round out the group of returners.

Central Oklahoma has five tournaments on its fall schedule including the Skip Wagnon Invitational Oct. 5-6 at KickingBird Golf Club in Edmond.
