Bronchos Host Skip Wagnon Invitational

Central Oklahoma Welcomes 18 Teams To KickingBird

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma hosts the Skip Wagnon Invitational presented by Visit Edmond Monday and Tuesday at KickingBird.

UCO is competing for the fourth time this fall. The Bronchos wrap up the five-tournament fall schedule next week in Kansas. The Bronchos will tee off at 8 a.m. in a shotgun start among 18 teams competing this week in Edmond.

The Bronchos have two teams entered into their own tournament this week. The first team consists of Nick Canales, William Whorton, Rhett Hughes, Bryant Polhill, and John Helzer. UCO's second squad consists of Jack Ensey, Ty Hyatt, Ross Wright, Andrew Talburt, and Brock Jerman.

Canales leads the Bronchos this season. He finished second at The Mule last month and won the Holiday Inn Express Invitational last week. The three-time All-American has a 68.6 scoring average through nine rounds of golf this season.

Whorton, a freshman from Norman, is off to a scorching start to his career. He won The Mule Sept. 8-9 in Warrensburg, Missouri. Whorton has a 69.6 scoring average through nine rounds in his rookie season.

Hughes started the season strong with a 54-hole 203 at The Mule. He dipped with a 244 in Michigan but had another good showing last week with an even-par 210 in Missouri. Hughes has a 73.0 scoring average this season.

Hyatt has a 72.5 scoring average through nine rounds of golf. He shot a 212 at Mules National, a 220 in Michigan, and a 221 last week at St. Joseph Country Club.

Polhill has played in 2 of 3 events this fall. He opened the season with a 230 at Mules National in Warrensburg, Missouri. He shot a 226 at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Michigan in the second tournament of the season.

Helzer is playing for the second time this season. The freshman made his debut at Missouri Western's Holiday Inn Express Invitational last week and shot a 9-over-par 219 in the 54-hole event. Ensey also made his debut there and posted an 18-over 228.

Wright, Talburt, and Jerman will make their season debuts this week.

Central Oklahoma heads to Andover, Kansas for the Newman Fall Invitational Oct. 12-13 at Terradyne Country Club.
