Central Oklahoma Competes In Annual Southern Stampede Saturday Morning

JOPLIN, Mo. – Central Oklahoma returns to the course with Missouri Southern's annual Southern Stampede Saturday morning.

The 5k race begins at 8:10 a.m. at Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.

Central Oklahoma has 11 entries into the season-opening race. Lily Melton, Lily Horvath, Regan Jones, Hadlee Mann, Ariane Williams, Rilee Shea, Julia Trost, McKenna Huston, Autumn Hickok, Abagail Bloyed, and Chloe Ezell are all entered to run for the Bronchos.

Melton led the Bronchos in their first race of the season two weeks ago in Tulsa. The sophomore finished 17th overall with a time of 18:36, the ninth-fastest 5k in school history. Melton did not compete in cross country during her freshman season but was a key member of the distance squad during both Indoor and Outdoor track & field seasons.

UCO had nine runners compete at the RSU Distance After Dark meet two weeks ago. Horvath finished second among the Bronchos in 19:20. Trost (20:22), Jones (20:29), Williams (20:30), Mann (20:35), Hickok (20:48), Huston (22:46) and Bloyed (22:47) all competed as well.

Central Oklahoma will continue its every-other-week schedule moving into October. The Bronchos next race after Joplin is Saturday, Oct. 3 at Arkansas' annual Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville. UCO will also race at Oklahoma State before the MIAA Championships in November.
