INDIANAPOLIS – Central Oklahoma is ranked No. 3 in the NCAA Central Region rankings, released Wednesday.
UCO is 39-12 this season and ranked No. 18 in the country in this week's National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25. The Bronchos are 16-6 in the MIAA and currently third in the league standings.
The NCAA will announce May 11 the 64-team field for the Division II Softball Championship with eight regionals. Each region will have two sub-regionals May 14-16 and a Super Region May 21-22.
The Central Region is made up of 41 teams from the MIAA (13), the Great American Conference (12), and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (16). Each conference's postseason tournament champion will receive an automatic bid and five more at-large bids will be given to the highest ranked teams in the region.
UCO wraps up the regular season Friday at 12 p.m. in an MIAA doubleheader against Newman. Senior Day recognition will take place in between the two games. The Bronchos travel to Emporia, Kansas next week for the MIAA Softball Championship. Central could be the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the postseason tournament May 6-9.
