Matthew Willenborg Among Top 50 On Player of the Year Watchlist

Central Oklahoma Junior Forward Leading Bronchos

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Bevo Francis Award Watchlist narrowed down to a Top 50 was released Sunday morning and Matthew Willenborg is among those named for the Player of the Year award.
 
Willenborg is currently second in the MIAA in scoring and leads the league in rebounds and blocked shots. He ranks third in the country in total blocks and blocks per game.
 
The junior forward from Norman averages 20.4 points per game, 9.4 rebounds per game, and 3.0 blocks per game. He also chips in on defense with 1.5 steals per game. Willenborg plays 33.9 minutes per game, shoots 49.0 percent overall, 35.0 percent from 3-point range, and 82.1 percent from the free-throw line.
 
This season, Willenborg has 81 total blocked shots, the second most in any season in UCO history. He also stands alone at the top of the Broncho basketball record book with 151 career blocked shots.
 
Central Oklahoma has a 15-12 record this season and is 8-7 in the MIAA. The Bronchos are among teams fighting for postseason position. UCO is just two games back of third place with four games left in the regular season.
 
The 2026 MIAA Basketball Championship is scheduled for March 4-8 in Kansas City, Missouri at historic Municipal Auditorium.
