Central Oklahoma Hosts Rogers State

Bronchos Welcome Hillcats To Hamilton For MIAA Battle

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma and Rogers State meet Saturday afternoon in an MIAA matchup at Hamilton Field House. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
 
UCO is 15-11 this season and has an 8-6 record in the MIAA. Rogers State is 15-8 overall with a 9-5 record in league play. The two met in December and RSU won 72-67.
 
The teams are separated by just one game in the MIAA standings as the season winds down. The top 10 teams qualify for the MIAA Basketball Championship March 4-8 in Kansas City, Missouri. Rogers is tied with Arkansas-Fort Smith for third place while UCO is tied with Missouri Western for fifth place. The Bronchos play Washburn and Central Missouri, who are first and second in the standings, next week in Edmond, and also Fort Smith the week after in Arkansas.
 
Central Oklahoma is averaging 73.7 points per game this season. The Bronchos shoot 45.2 percent from the floor, 32.3 percent from behind the 3-point line, and 72.8 percent from the free-throw line. UCO averages 5.8 made 3-pointers per game and 14.4 made free-throws per game.
 
Defensively, Central allows an even 67.7 points per game with opponents shooting 41.5 percent overall against the Bronchos. Teams shoot 32.5 percent from behind the 3-point line and average 7.0 made threes per game. Opponents also shoot 72.1 percent at the free-throw line against UCO and average 11.5 made free-throws per game.
 
Matthew Willenborg leads Central Oklahoma in scoring, rebounding, and blocks. He is second in the MIAA in scoring, he leads the MIAA in rebounding and blocks and ranks among the best in the country in the latter. Willenborg is third in DII in total blocks (81) and blocks per game. The junior forward broke the career blocks record at UCO last weekend, recording 150 in his three seasons.
 
Willenborg averages 20.9 points per game, 9.5 rebounds per game, and 3.1 blocks per game. His 34.0 minutes per game also are the most on the team. Willenborg shoots 49.1 percent overall, 34.8 percent from behind the 3-point line, and 83.5 percent from the free-throw line.
 
Josh Nwankwo is second on the team in scoring and also ranks fifth in the MIAA at 18.7 points per game, giving the Bronchos two in the top five. Nwankwo adds 5.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.4 steals per game. He is a 46.6 percent shooter overall, 38.1 percent from three, and 81.5 percent at the free-throw line.
 
A pair of guards give Central just under 10 points per game with Marcus Zeigler Jr. (8.7) and Parker Hannah (8.6) adding to the offense. Zeigler adds 3.5 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. Hannah has 37 made 3-pointers this season.
 
Ben Averitt chips in 6.2 points per game and 3.2 rebounds per game. Jack Robinson adds 4.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game.
 
Rogers State is averaging 78.1 points per game and defensively gives up 69.9 per contest. Five players average double figures for the Hillcats, led by Andrew Mason's 14.0 points per game.
 
Central Oklahoma is starting a three-game homestand with the Rogers contest on Saturday. The Bronchos host No. 3 Washburn and Central Missouri next week before finishing the regular season on the road at No. 25 Arkansas - Fort Smith and Northeastern State.
