Central Oklahoma Continues Homestand With MIAA Matchup

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma continues a four-game homestand at Hamilton Field House this weekend against Arkansas Fort Smith. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

UCO is 6-8 this season and looking to rebound from a midweek loss to Northeastern State that ended a five-game winning streak. The Bronchos are 1-4 in the MIAA. Arkansas Fort Smith is 2-12 overall and also 1-4 in league play.

Central Oklahoma is averaging 64.0 points per game through 14 games played this season. The Bronchos shoot 37.8 percent overall, including a 27.6 percent mark from behind the 3-point line. Central averages 4.5 made 3-pointers per game. UCO also shoots 64.9 percent from the free-throw line and averages 11.6 made free-throws per game.

Nykaiya Dillard leads Central Oklahoma in scoring at 13.1 points per game. She played the first 13 games of the bench but started earlier this week in place of the injured Bobbie Fouquet. Dillard leads the team in field goals made (65), free-throws made (47) and attempted (73), and steals (27).

Sophomore Kaitlyn McCarn is second on the team in scoring at 11.3 points per game. She is second on the team with 62 made baskets through 14 games played. McCarn is an 80.0 percent free-throw shooter and adds 4.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game to help the Bronchos.

Fouquet, a junior forward, is averaging 8.5 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game. She has a team-high 11 made 3-pointers on the year. Wednesday was the first game she's missed in her debut season at Central.

Another sophomore, Jerney Bennett, is leading UCO in a lot of ways. The Edmond native averages 8.4 points per game and leads the team with 8.2 rebounds per game and 4.1 blocks per game. She ranks third in Division II in blocks and in just 14 games, her 58 blocks are already the fourth most in a single season in UCO history.

UCO also gets offensive production from Olivia Quapaw (6.2 points per game, Peyton Walker (4.2), and Kendrick Bailey (3.9). Bailey, Fouquet, and Talia Pogi, who averages 3.2 points per game, all have 11 made 3-pointers this season to lead the Bronchos.

Arkansas Fort Smith comes to Edmond averaging 62.6 points per game and shoots 38.3 percent overall. The Lions shoot 27.8 percent from behind the 3-point line and average 5.6 made 3-pointers per game. UAFS also shoots 65.5 percent from the free-throw line and averages 11.9 made free-throws per game.

The Bronchos own a 10-4 lead in the all-time series with Arkansas Fort Smith. The teams played 12 times before UAFS joined the MIAA last year, when each team won their home game in the series. The Bronchos won 83-55 in Edmond last season.

Central Oklahoma continues the four-game homestand next week with Missouri Southern on Wednesday night and No. 11 Pittsburg State next Saturday afternoon.
