UCO Hosts Northeastern State Wednesday Night

Bronchos Look To Continue Win Streak

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma returns to Hamilton Field House this week for a pair of MIAA matchups beginning with Northeastern State Wednesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

UCO is 6-7 this season and brings a five-game winning streak into this week's contests. The Bronchos are 1-3 in the MIAA. Northeastern State is 10-3 on the season overall and has a 2-2 record in league play.

"We've been fortunate to get some momentum going and it's only going to be harder to keep it going, but we're ready to test ourselves against a really good team," UCO head women's basketball coach Hannah Moeller said. "We've done a good job on both ends of the floor but there is still plenty of room to improve and that's our focus – getting better each game."

UCO is averaging 64.5 points per game through 13 games played this season. The Bronchos shoot 38.0 percent overall, including a 27.0 percent mark from behind the 3-poine line. Central averages 4.5 made 3-pointers per game. UCO also shoots 64.3 percent from the free-throw line and averages 11.6 made free-throws per game.

Nykaiya Dillard leads Central Oklahoma in scoring at 12.5 points per game and does so off the bench. The freshman guard is second on the team with 58 made baskets and leads UCO in free-throws made (41) and attempted (65). Dillard also leads the Bronchos on defense with 1.8 steals per game.

Sophomore Kaitlyn McCarn is second on the team in scoring at 11.6 points per game. She has a team-high 59 made baskets through 13 games played. McCarn is an 81.8 percent free-throw shooter and adds 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game to help the Bronchos.

Another sophomore, Jerney Bennett, is leading UCO in a lot of ways. The Edmond native averages 8.8 points per game and leads the team with 8.4 rebounds per game and 4.1 blocks per game. She ranks third in Division II in blocks and in just 13 games, her 53 blocks are already the fifth most in a single season in UCO history.

Junior forward Bobbie Fouquet is averaging 8.5 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game. She has a team-high 11 made 3-pointers on the year.

UCO also gets offensive production from Olivia Quapaw (6.3 points per game, Peyton Walker (4.2), and Kendrick Bailey (3.8). Bailey is also among the leaders in 3-pointers with 10 makes. Walker has nine and Quapaw eight makes from behind the arc.

Dillard (1.8), Bennett (1.3), McCarn (1.2), Walker (1.2), and Bailey (1.1) are all averaging more than a steal per game, helping the Bronchos to more than eight per outing. UCO forces 15.8 turnovers per game including 8.2 steals.

Northeastern State comes to Edmond averaging 70.4 points per game and the Riverhawks shoot as a team 38.1 percent from the floor. NSU shoots 29.3 percent from behind the 3-point line and averages 6.2 made 3-pointers per game, and 81.5 percent from the free-throw line with an average of 18.3 made free-throws per contest.

The Bronchos are looking to snap a four-game losing streak to Northeastern. The Bronchos won 12 in a row from 2016-22, but have lost four of five since, including the last two meetings in Edmond. Northeastern State leads the all-time series with Central Oklahoma 42-35.

Central's five game win streak is the longest since winning five in a row in February 2021. The Bronchos also host Arkansas Fort Smith on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Lions are 2-11 on the season, 1-3 in the MIAA, and play at Rogers State Wednesday night before coming to Edmond this weekend.
