Jessica Boone Named Softball Assistant Coach

New UCO Head Coach Sam Maples Adds Oklahoman To Staff

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma has announced Jessica Boone as its new assistant softball coach.

Boone comes to UCO after spending the previous three years as head coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

"I am thrilled to welcome Jessica to the staff," Sam Maples said. "Her passion for developing young women on and off the softball field is unmatched. It's not often you get the chance to hire someone with head coaching and recruiting experience of her caliber. I am looking forward to the impact she will have on the program and our student athletes."

Maples was hired in June to lead the program. She hired Boone as an assistant while serving as head coach at OBU and the duo won more than 30 games that season.

Boone is from Sapulpa, Oklahoma and is no stranger to the MIAA. She played for Northeastern State from 2015-18, appearing in 206 of 207 games during her career. A three-time All-MIAA selection, Boone also coached at her alma mater for two seasons following her playing career.

She joined Maples in Shawnee in July 2021 and spent the 2022 season with OBU, when the Bison won 33 games, then a school record in the Division II era.

Boone got the head coaching job at Southwestern Oklahoma State after that and has spent the past three seasons there, winning 52 games. She increased her win total in each of the three seasons, including 22 wins in 2025 and a return to the Great American Conference Championship for the first time in six years.

Boone earned two degrees during her time at Northeastern State. She received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 2018 and her master's degree in School Administration in 2021.

Central Oklahoma is hosting a meet & greet social for Maples and Boone next week at the Sports Performance Center Stampede Club. Fans are encouraged to attend and welcome the new softball coaches Tuesday, July 8.
