Four Bronchos Named All-Region

Golf Coaches Association of American Honors Four Central Oklahoma Golf Standouts

NORMAN, Okla. – Central Oklahoma landed four student-athletes on the Golf Coaches Association of American's NCAA Division II PING All-Region Team.

Bennett Baldwin, Baylor Bostick, Nick Canales, and Jordan Wilson were each named All-Region for the Central Region. The quartet of Bronchos led UCO to the Central/Midwest Regional Championship last week in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Baldwin, Canales, and Wilson are now two-time All-Region selections after earning the same honor last year. Bostick is a first-time pick.

"Happy for those guys to be recognized for all the work they put in," UCO head men's golf coach Derrick Thompson said. "They've worked so hard to help us win conference and regionals and they're working just as hard as we get ready for nationals. We're proud of them."

UCO begins play at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship Monday, May 19 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Teams will play 54 holes of stroke play Monday – Wednesday to determine and individual national champion (Wilson finished runner-up last year) and the top eight teams that advance to match play. Thursday, May 22 will be four quarterfinal matches. Semifinals are scheduled for Friday morning and the national championship match Friday afternoon.

Last year, UCO finished third to advance to match play before losing in the quarterfinals to eventual national champion Colorado Christian. Central Oklahoma heads back to nationals with seven wins and three runner-up finishes in 11 tournaments this season.

Baldwin has a 70.3 scoring average through 31 rounds of golf this season. The senior from Stillwater, Oklahoma ranks 19th nationally and second regionally in the latest Scoreboard by Clippd rankings. Baldwin has nine top-10 finishes, including two runner-up performances in the fall season.

Bostick has a 71.6 scoring average through 25 rounds of golf this season. The sophomore from Duncan, Oklahoma is rated sixth in the Central Region according to Scoreboard by Clippd. Bostick has four top 10s, including one runner-up. He finished third at the MIAA Men's Golf Championship three weeks ago.

Canales boasts a 70.9 scoring average and like Baldwin has played 31 rounds of golf this season. The sophomore from La Porte, Texas is ranked 23rd nationally and third regionally. He has two first-place finishes this season. Canales won the first tournament of the year back in September and finished tied for first at the Regional Championships last week before losing a playoff.

Wilson is the top-ranked player in the region according to Scoreboard by Clippd. He ranks 15th nationally. The senior from Edmond has a 70.5 scoring average through 29 rounds of golf this season. UCO's only tournament outside of first or second place was the national preview in the fall, when Wilson did not play. The Bronchos finished eighth after the final round was canceled due to weather.
