Bronchos Outlast NSU, Clinch Series

Central Oklahoma Wins Seventh MIAA Series With Game 2 Win Wednesday

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Central Oklahoma made it 13 in a row Wednesday with an 11-9 victory at Northeastern State in MIAA play.

UCO is now 29-8 on the season, 19-6 in league play. The Bronchos also won the season series against instate rival, NSU. After a 12-8 win in Edmond two weeks ago, and Wednesday's win in Tahlequah, the Bronchos will look for a series sweep April 23 in Edmond.

Central Oklahoma has won 7 of 9 series in the MIAA this season, with three more remaining.

Caleb Burchfield got the win Wednesday, improving to 3-0 on the season. Burchfield threw 5.0 innings, allowing five runs on six hits and four walks. He did strikeout six NSU batters. Brody Berlowitz threw 2.0 innings of relief work and Chase Yarger, 2/3 of an inning.

Valek Cisneros came on with two outs in the bottom of the eighth. He did allow one run on one hit and a walk, but also got a game-ending double play to earn his ninth save of the year.

Caden Robertson went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and one run scored. His grand slam in the top of the second inning gave UCO a 7-0 lead and Robertson his 20th home run of the season.

Grant Randall, Ty Hammack, and Orlando Gonzalez all had two hits in the game Wednesday. Hammack hit a solo homer to left field and Drake Lee also added a solo shot for his only hit of the game.

UCO broke it open early. Grant Long drew a bases loaded walk to score Gonzalez, then Randall reached on an error that scored Garrett Casey. Ty Chapman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Lee, then Robertson's no-doubter to left center made it 7-0 in the second inning.

NSU got four back in the third and both teams struck in the fifth. Randall scored Casey to make it 8-4 before NSU got it back to three runs, 8-5, in the bottom half of the fifth.

Lee's solo home run to left field made it 9-5 in the seventh, then NSU wouldn't go away, scoring two more to get it down to two runs, 9-7.

The same happened in the eighth. Hammack's homer made it 10-7, but NSU got one back off Yarger in the bottom half to make it 10-8.

Randall scored Lee with a sacrifice fly in the ninth to make it 11-8, then NSU got its final run off a sac-fly in the ninth to make it 11-9.

Central Oklahoma plays at Central Missouri this weekend for three games before visiting Rogers State for its final midweek MIAA matchup with the Hillcats next week.
