UCO Win Streak Ends At Central Missouri

Broncho Loss Ends 13-Game Win Streak

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Central Oklahoma's 13-game win streak came to an end Friday night in the first of three games at No. 3-ranked Central Missouri.

UCM 8, UCO 3.

Central Oklahoma got behind 4-0 in the first inning, fought back to make it 4-3 in the seventh, but gave up a second four-run frame then to fall 8-3.

"It might have just been the two big rallies, but you can't give those up against good teams," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "We have to be better than that. We have to be more focused than that to try and get back in the win column."

Brett Pense took his first loss of the season (4-1) on Friday. The sophomore right-hander threw 6.0 innings, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks. He also hit one batter. Pense struck out six on the day. And he threw 5.0 scoreless innings after the first.

Brady Gilmore gave up two runs on two hits to leadoff the bottom of the seventh, then Denton Whiteside gave up two more on one hit and a walk. He also hit one batter. Preston Giltner recorded the final out of the seventh after giving up one hit and hitting a batter. Austin Burda pitched the eighth and struck out one batter.

Central Oklahoma managed five hits in the game Friday, all from different players. Ty Chapman, Caden Robertson, Orlando Gonzalez, Joe Ricchio, and Matt Baughn all had base hits. Robertson had a double in the first and Ricchio did the same in the seventh inning.

Baughn's RBI single in the fifth scored Gonzalez. Carson Carpenter scored Gonzalez with a sacrifice fly in the seventh to make it 4-2 and Ricchio scored after his double when Baughn reached on an error. That play cut it to 4-3 going into the seventh inning stretch.

Central Oklahoma and Central Missouri play two more games this weekend, Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
