UCO Walked Off Again At Central Missouri

Bronchos Fall In Extras, Swept By Mules

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Central Oklahoma couldn't avoid the three-game sweep Sunday at No. 3 Central Missouri, falling 3-2 in 10 innings in the MIAA series finale.

UCO is now 29-11 on the year following the loss, and 19-9 in the MIAA.

Dax Sharp got the start and threw 9.0 innings. He faced two batters in the 10th, but a leadoff double with an error in the outfield was followed by a walkoff two-run home run to give UCM the win. Both Saturday and Sunday games ended with the host Mules winning on a walkoff.

Sharp threw 9.0 innings, allowing six hits and one walk. He struck out two batters. He tossed six shutout innings before a solo home run gave UCM a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh. Sharp quickly got the next three batters in order to keep the game close.

UCO scored in the top of the eighth, with Orlando Gonzalez hitting an RBI double to score Caden Robertson and tie the game, 1-1.
Sharp continued his dominant pitching, getting UCO through the eighth and ninth still at 1-1.

As UCM went to its third pitcher to start the 10th, UCO benefitted with Grant Randall being hit by a pitch to start the inning. Ty Chapman followed and on a hit and run play, slapped a single through the right side of the infield. Randall darted for third and the throw by the UCM right fielder was errant, allowing Randall to score and give UCO a 2-1 lead.

However, Sharp went back out for the 10th and that's where it ended. A leadoff double to right center turned into three bases with an error on Ty Hammack in center field. UCM then drove a 1-1 pitch over the fence in left field to end the game with a walkoff two-run home run.

Chapman and Gonzalez both went 2-for-5 to lead the Bronchos Sunday. Robertson and Carson Carpenter each had a base hit.

Central Oklahoma continues a late season road swing with a midweek MIAA game at Rogers State this week. UCO hosts Northwest Missouri this coming weekend, with the series moved up a day to Thursday-Saturday before the Easter holiday.
