Central Oklahoma Takes Team Title By 16 Shots, Wilson Wins By Eight Shots

HAYS, Kan. – Central Oklahoma won its fifth tournament of the season Tuesday with a 16-shot victory at the FHSU Classic at Smoky Hill Country Club, where Jordan Wilson also brought home the individual title for the Bronchos.

UCO fought through a Monday morning delay to get 27 holes in, then finished with 27 more on Tuesday. The Bronchos had the team lead entering the final round and pulled away with another victory.

"The guys did great this week with all that was thrown at them," UCO head men's golf coach Derrick Thompson said. "The delay, two long days, conditions were tough, they just kept playing their game and it worked out best for us. Happy for Jordan too. He was great this week."

UCO posted a 54-hole score of 850 to take the team title. The Bronchos posted rounds of 279, 289, and 282, playing the 6,105-yard Par 70 course 10-over par for the week.

Newman finished second with an 866 (288-293-285), Colorado State Pueblo was third one shot behind Newman. Central Missouri (869) and the host Fort Hays State Tigers (872) rounded out the top five.

Wilson posted a 3-under 67 on Monday and between Monday and Tuesday, a 1-over 71 for the second round. He started the final round with a par and a birdie, and that would be the theme for the finish. Wilson posted a 5-under 65 with zero bogeys in the round. He sank birdie putts on 3, 6, 10, 14, and 15, and par putts on every other hole.

His 7-under 203 was eight shots better than the individual runner-up.

UCO also got a sixth-place finish from Bennett Baldwin, who posted a 54-hole 214. The senior from Stillwater shot an even-par 70 and a 6-over 76 before finishing Tuesday with a 2-under 68. Baldwin was 2-over at the turn on the final round before playing a bogey-free back nine 4-under to finish with the 68.

Sophomore Baylor Bostick made it three in the top 10 for the Bronchos. He finished eighth at 5-over 215. Bostick posted rounds of 72 and 69 before finishing with a 74 on Tuesday. Nick Canales tied for 20th individually with a 219, shooting 71, 73, and 75 for the week.

Karsten Paciotti was UCO's fifth in the lineup and shot a 226 (71-77-78). Dylan Henderson played as an individual in the field and finished 26th at 220 (72-76-72).

Central Oklahoma has one more tournament on the schedule for the regular season, April 7-8 at Firekeeper Golf Course in Marietta, Kansas. The Bronchos are ranked No. 5 in the country and No. 1 in the NCAA's Central Region rankings.

The MIAA Men's Golf Championship is scheduled for April 21-23 in Jefferson City, Missouri. The NCAA Regional Championship is scheduled for May 8-10 in St. Joseph, Missouri, and the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships are set for May 19-23 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
