UCO Takes Two In Arkansas

Bronchos Beat Oauchita Baptist 14-0 Before A 10-7 Win Against Southern Arkansas

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Central Oklahoma won its fifth straight game, third of the weekend, and second of the day, with a 10-7 victory for the Bronchos over Southern Arkansas Saturday night at the Henderson State Invitational.

UCO (5-2) beat Ouachita Baptist 14-0 earlier in the day.

"It was a long day and two very different baseball games," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "Proud of the guys for battling all day and getting two wins. We got a lot out of Southern Arkansas and we're probably going to get more out of them tomorrow."

Central Oklahoma beat host HSU 5-4 on Friday night, with a ninth-inning rally getting it done. The Bronchos demolished co-host OBU 14-0 Saturday afternoon, then outlasted SAU in a battle into the night. UCO and SAU play Sunday at 1:30 p.m. to wrap up the weekend.

Danny Satterlee got UCO started on Saturday afternoon. The right-handed starter threw five one-hit innings against Ouachita as his teammates piled up the runs. Satterlee recorded 15 outs and no strikeouts. He got OBU to flyout eight times, and groundout four times, including three double plays.

Trent Gerber threw two scoreless innings and also gave up just one hit. He struck out two batters. Brayden Thompson struck out the side in the eighth and Preston Giltner struck out 3 of 5 batters in the ninth to finish the shutout.

Caden Robertson hit two home runs in the first game and Orlando Gonzalez hit another. Carson Carpenter, Dylan Darnall, Drake Lee, Brooks Miller, and Ty Chapman all hit for doubles.

Grant Randall and Ty Hammack both had two hits and two RBIs. Carpenter, Lee and Gonzalez all had two RBIs in the scoring fest too.

The nightcap for Central was a back-and-forth slugfest between two teams receiving votes in preseason national rankings.

Southern Arkansas took a 2-0 lead in the first before Long's two-RBI double tied the game in the second. SAU took a 3-2 lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the second, then Carpenter tied it with a solo home run in the top of the third.

SAU took another lead, 5-3, in the third inning, but the Bronchos kept the back and forth going with Robertson's three-run double in the top of the fourth inning that gave the Bronchos a 6-5 lead.

After one more SAU run, Central Oklahoma started to pull away. Luke Stout hit a two-RBI pinch-hit homer in the seventh and Robertson led off the eighth with a solo homer to give UCO a 9-6 lead. Long blasted a solo homer in the ninth to push the lead to its final, 10-7.

Central Oklahoma and Southern Arkansas do it again Sunday at 1:30 p.m. The Bronchos  return home for a four-game series next weekend against Colorado Christian.
