UCO Wins Finale At Washburn

Central Oklahoma Avoids Sweep With Game 3 Win

TOPEKA, Kan. – Central Oklahoma salvaged its MIAA series at Washburn with a 9-8 win in Game 3 Monday afternoon.

The Bronchos improved to 10-4 with the win and are 1-2 in league play following the win, which followed a WU doubleheader sweep on Sunday. Washburn is 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the MIAA.

"We did a good job of staying aggressive at the plate today," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "We would have liked to not give up as much as we did, but we still found a way to get that done."

Carson Carpenter hit a two-run home run in the first inning, Grant Randall added a solo shot in the fourth, and then Orlando Gonzalez hit a grand slam in the seventh. Caden Robertson hit two doubles and had one RBI. Carpenter also hit a double, as did Ty Hammack. Garrett Long added a triple.

Central Oklahoma finished with 11 hits in the game, with eight going for extra bases.

Central Oklahoma got on the board in the first inning Monday when Robertson smacked an RBI double to score Randall. Carpenter's home run followed to give UCO a 3-0 lead.

The Bronchos made it 4-0 with Randall's solo shot in the fourth.

In the seventh, UCO got one run on a bases-loaded wild pitch. Hammack scored on the play. Then Gonzalez followed with a grand slam to give UCO a 9-4 lead.
