Bronchos Walkoff CCU To Earn Sweep

Matt Baughn Delivers Three-RBI Double With Two Outs In Bottom Of Ninth Inning

EDMOND – With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, down by two runs, Matt Baughn turned on a 2-1 pitch and drove it past the third baseman and down the left field line. A walkoff three-RBI double gave Central Oklahoma a 12-11 victory over Colorado Christian.

Baughn entered the game in the top of the eighth inning as a defensive sub at catcher. His first plate appearance came in in the bottom of the ninth, with UCO trailing 11-9.

Caden Robertson drew a leadoff walk, and Orlando Gonzalez drew a two-out walk. Then Ty Chapman was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Baughn. He watched the first two pitches in for balls, then watched another over the plate. Then he turned on the 2-1 pitch for the game-winning hit.

"We had to fight for it all day," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "We kept letting them get what they wanted, but proud of the guys for fighting all the way through. That was great for Matt. He's been with us for a while and he's a great kid to have in your program. Really cool moment for him."

Central Oklahoma improved to 9-2 on the season with the win – its ninth straight.

Colorado Christian held a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, and then 5-0 in the third. It was 5-5 going to the sixth, and 6-6 heading to the seventh.

The Bronchos then had a big lead, 9-6, going to the eighth, but CCU responded with five runs in the top of the eighth to go in front 11-9.

Grant Randall and Chapman both collected three hits on the day. Carson Carpenter, Ty Hammack, Gonzalez, Baughn, and Garrett Long each had one hit.

Randall hit an RBI double in the third to score Chapman, and Carpenter followed with an RBI double to score Randall.

In the fifth, Randall delivered again, pelting a three-run home run to right center, scoring Chapman and Joe Ricchio to tie the game, 5-5.

Gonzalez scored on an error in the sixth to tie the game, 6-6.

Central's rally in the seventh inning started with Randall laying down a sacrifice bunt. Long scored on the play after a throwing error by the CCU pitcher. Robertson followed with a sac-fly to score Randall, and Chapman hit an RBI single to score Hammack and give UCO the 9-6 lead.

Caleb Burchfield got the start for UCO. He gave up five runs on seven hits in three innings of work. Brody Berlowitz threw two innings of relief, Andrew Talburt faced two batters in the sixth, and Brayden Thompson also threw two innings out of the bullpen.
