UCO Wins Shortened Houston Classic

Bronchos Took Nine-Shot Lead Into Final Round Before Weather Ended Tournament Early

HUMBLE, Texas – Central Oklahoma won the Houston Classic this week after the third and final round was canceled due to rain Tuesday morning.

The Bronchos held a nine-shot lead after two trips around the near 7,000-yard Golf Club of Houston Monday. UCO was on the course and tee'd off Tuesday morning, but rain came in and the tournament was called.

The win is the fourth of the season for the Bronchos, who won three tournaments in the fall semester. UCO also finished runner-up in another fall tourney.

Baylor Bostick and Nick Canales finished second in the individual standings. The duo was two shots back of Midwestern State's Seth Bearden heading into Tuesday's final round. Both Bostick (74-66) and Canales (67-73) shot 4-under-par 140.

Bennett Baldwin finished 13th with an even-par 144. The senior posted rounds of 75 and 69 on Mondays. Dylan Henderson finished 22nd with a 3-over 147 (75-72). Jordan Wilson finished 29th with a 5-over 149 (73-76).

Rhett Hughes made his UCO debut this weekend, competing unattached. The Edmond native and Nebraska transfer shot a 2-over-par 146 (72-74).

Central Oklahoma only had four tournaments on the schedule for the Spring beginning with this week's Houston Classic. The Bronchos will play the Oak Tree Invitational, hosted by Oklahoma Christian, March 17-18 in Edmond. UCO will also play the FHSU Tiger Classic in Hays, Kansas March 31 – April 1, and the Firekeeper Invitational in Marietta, Kansas April 7-8.
