UCO Picked 12th In Women's Basketball Polls

Central Oklahoma Enters Hannah Moeller Era This Winter

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma was picked 12th in both the MIAA Preseason Coaches' Poll and the league's media poll, announced Monday at Media Day presented by Seigfreid Bingham.

UCO received 44 total points in the poll of 14 league head coaches. Fort Hays State was picked first with only two first-place votes. Washburn was picked second with six first-place votes. Pittsburg State was third with five first-place votes. And Central Missouri was fourth with one first place vote.

"We know the work that needs to be done and we've got a lot to prove," first-year UCO head women's basketball coach Hannah Moeller said. "There's no reason for us to be concerned with polls at this point. We've got to continue to work and get better in practice and then start winning some games this winter."

Moeller was named head coach April 2 and inherits a program that missed the MIAA Basketball Championship in each of the last two seasons. The Bronchos made the league's postseason tournament in 10 consecutive seasons prior.

Central Oklahoma has three players back from last year's squad, including senior Talia Pogi. The Mustang, Oklahoma native has played in all 56 games over the past two seasons with the Bronchos. Sophomores Peyton Walker and Parker Simonsen are also back. Walker played in every game as a true freshman.

Moeller filled up the roster seven transfers and three freshmen. Seniors Kendrick Bailey and Harley Harbour came to UCO with Moeller from Mid-America Christian. Juniors Bobbie Fouquet, Olivia Quapaw, and Madison Roberts are all transfers. Sophomores Jerney Bennett and Kaitlyn McCarn transferred as well. Freshmen Emerie Adams, Haniya Geretta, and Nykaiya Dillard round out the newcomers.

UCO opens the season with five home games in the month of November. The Bronchos are hosting a Central Region Challenge at Hamilton Field House and will take on Southwest Minnesota State (Nov. 14) and St. Cloud State (Nov. 15). Washburn will also be in Edmond as part of the two-day festival. Central Oklahoma also hosts Midwestern State (Nov. 20), Harding (Nov. 24), and UC Colorado Springs (Nov. 29) in non-conference play.

The Bronchos begin MIAA play with three road games in December – at Pittsburg State, Missouri Southern, and Rogers State. Four more non-cons follow. Central Oklahoma plays at home against Evangel, at St. Mary's and Sul Ross State, and home again against McPherson. UCO has 16 MIAA games in the second semester.
