UCO Is Second After Two Rounds In Edmond

Bronchos Blister KickingBird In Skip Wagnon Invitational Presented By Visit Edmond

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma landed in second place after two trips around KickingBird Golf Club Monday in the Skip Wagnon Invitational presented by Visit Edmond.

St. Mary's leads the 18-team field after a 27-under-par 533 (269-264). UCO posted a 22-under 538 (270-268). Missouri Southern (547), Southwestern Oklahoma State (550), and Newman (557) round out the top five.

Nick Canales is fourth individually after starting the day with a school record 62. The junior tied his own and former All-American and UCO Athletics Hall of Famer Todd Dayton's mark for lowest score in a single round in school history. Dayton did it in the 2005-06 season at Tanglewood Golf Club in Pottsboro, Texas south of Lake Texoma, and Canales previously tied it during the 2023-24 season at Shangri-La.

The previous two marks were also school records at 10-under par. Monday in Edmond, Canales' 62 was an 8-under. He followed that up with a 1-over 71 and is 7-under heading into Tuesday's final round.

Karsten Paciotti is tied for sixth individually after shooting a 5-under 135 Monday. He started the day with an even-par 70 before firing a 65 in the afternoon.

Baylor Bostick and Bryant Polhill are both just two shots back and tied for 12th after 3-under 137s. Bostick shot 70-67 and Polhill 68-69 to get there. Rhett Hughes is UCO's fifth and shot a 1-under 139 with rounds of 72 and 67.

The Bronchos also have four individuals competing and Andrew Talburt leads that group with a 2-under 138. He shot back-to-back rounds of 69 and included a hole in one on the Par 3 third during the second round. Brock Jerman is tied with Hughes after similar rounds of 72 and 67 to land at 1-under for the tournament. Ty Hyatt posted an even-par 140 (73-67). Joah Bramwell made his UCO debut with a 6-over 146 (72-74).

Central Oklahoma's 10-under 270 in the first round included two eagles. Canales and Polhill both recorded eagles on the Par 5 15th. Jerman added a third eagle individually on the Par 5 12th. UCO had a combined 31 birdies between the nine players during the first round.

The second round included a pair of eagles, both by the individuals. Talburt's ace on No. 3 as followed by Bramwell's eagle on the Par 5 No. 4. Central Oklahoma sank 35 birdie putts during the second round.

Central Oklahoma will look to catch St. Mary's Tuesday morning in the third and final round. The Bronchos have won the first two tournaments this season and aim to make it three tomorrow.
