Central Oklahoma Hosts Skip Wagnon Invitational

UCO Welcomes 17 Programs In Home Event Presented By Visit Edmond

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma hosts the Skip Wagnon Invitational presented by Visit Edmond Monday and Tuesday at KickingBird Golf Club.

UCO welcomes 17 programs to Edmond for the two-day, 54-hole event. Teams will play two rounds beginning Monday morning and finish with a third round on Tuesday morning.

"It's always nice to play a home tournament and we hope we've got an advantage because of that," UCO head men's golf coach Derrick Thompson said. "We've played really well in the first month of the season and we'll need to again this week because this is a really good field."

Central Oklahoma has played two tournaments this fall and UCO has won two tournaments this fall. The Bronchos won The Mule at Central Missouri's Mules National by 14 strokes over host UCM. The Bronchos also won the NSU Classic at Page Belcher in Tulsa, beating UCM by seven strokes.

Central Oklahoma will have Nick Canales, Bryant Polhill, Rhett Hughes, Baylor Bostick, and Karsten Paciotti in the lineup this week in Edmond. Ty Hyatt, Andrew Talburt, Joah Bramwell, and Brock Jerman are also playing as individuals in the home event.

Canales led UCO with a first-place finish at The Mule, shooting a 207 (71-67-69). He finished third at the NSU Classic with a 204 (68-65-71).

Polhill and Paciotti both shot 210s in Missouri last month. Polhill followed with a 207 in Tulsa and Paciotti shot a 212.

Hughes started the year with a 214 in Missouri and responded with a 208 in Tulsa two weeks ago. Bostick has tournaments of 211 and 214 this season.

The Bronchos used the same five in each of the first two tournaments. Bramwell, Talburt, and Jerman will make their UCO debuts this week. Hyatt played in two events last year, shooting 238 at Oak Tree and 226 in St. Joseph, Missouri.

MIAA programs Missouri Southern, Fort Hays State, and Newman join UCO in Edmond this week. Great American Conference programs Southern Nazarene, Southeastern, Northwestern, Southwestern, Arkansas Tech, Henderson State, and Arkansas Monticello are slated to compete in Edmond this week. Northern Sun teams Winona State, Concordia St. Paul, Bemidji State, Minnesota State, and Sioux Falls are here as well. Lone Star squads Oklahoma Christian and St. Mary's round out the group.

Central Oklahoma has two more tournaments in the fall following this week's home event. UCO takes on the Missouri Southern Fall Invitational at Shangri-La Oct. 20-21 and will take on the DBU Classic at Rockwall Golf Club Oct. 27-28.
