Football Opens Spring Practice

Central Oklahoma Holding 15 Practices Over 5-Week Spring Session

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma opened Spring football this week with the Bronchos taking the field for the first of 15 offseason practices.

UCO has 95 student-athletes on the Spring roster as the Bronchos work through strength & conditioning, drills and intrasquad matchups in practice. Central is holding practice each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoon through the end of April.

"We're excited to be on the field for Spring football," UCO head football coach Adam Dorrel said. "We have a good group of guys that are returning, we've got some good veteran leadership, and we've got some new guys that are coming in here ready to compete. It should be a good Spring."

The 2024 UCO Football Spring Game is scheduled for Friday, April 26 at 6 p.m. inside Chad Richison Stadium. The Bronchos will host an intrasquad scrimmage that night open to the public, with a live DJ and video production adding to the entertainment.

Central Oklahoma has 95 players on its Spring roster. That includes 70 returners from the 2023 squad. UCO went 5-6 last season. The Bronchos are 9-2 at home in two seasons under Dorrel.

UCO returns leading passer Dawson Herl (1,600 yards and 14 touchdowns) and leading receivers Terrill Davis and Jacob Delso (76 combined receptions for 1,007 yards and five touchdowns).

The Bronchos also return the top four tacklers on defense in linebackers Connor Johnson and Jack Puckett, defensive lineman Zane Adams, and defensive back Johnathan Mosley. All-MIAA picks Noah West (LB) and Grayson Miller (P) are also returning in 2024.

Dorrel enters his third season at Central Oklahoma in 2024. The three-time national champion head coach is 106-51 in his career and 11-11 in two seasons with the Bronchos. Dorrel welcomed four new coaches on the defensive side of the ball this winter, with the additions of Cody Swanson, Thomas Pearson, Kamau Dumas, and Jesse Harwell to the staff.

Central Oklahoma opens the 2024 season this September. A full schedule release is coming in April, along with promotion announcements and season ticket information.
