Bronchos Fall To Fourth In Mat Poll

Gabe Johnson Keeps No. 1 Ranking at 157, Six Others in Top 10

MANHEIM, Pa. – Gabe Johnson kept his spot as the No. 1-ranked 157-pounder and Central Oklahoma has six other top-10 individuals, but the Bronchos fell two spots in the latest NCAA Division II poll released by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

St. Cloud State maintained a solid grasp on the top spot with 103.5 points in the tournament-style ranking that gives points to the top 15 individuals at each weight. Glenville State jumped from sixth to second with 77 points, followed by Wisconsin-Parkside (75.5), UCO (67) and Nebraska-Kearney (65).

Johnson stayed No. 1 to lead Central's ranked individuals. Studd Morris (125), Dylan Lucas (141) and Garrett Wells (184) are all fifth, while 149 Dylan Brown and 165 Hunter Jump are seventh and 133 Peter Rolle 10th.

The Bronchos finished runner-up to Wisconsin-Parkside and ahead of Glenville State in their last competition Dec. 14-15 at the prestigious Midwest Classic in Indianapolis. UCO, 4-0 in duals, returns to action Jan. 10-11 at the NWCA Division II National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa, with nine of the top 10 teams set to attend that 16-team double-elimination tournament.

Johnson went 6-0 with four bonus-point wins in cruising to the individual title to lead UCO at the Midwest Classic. The defending national champion and junior star is now 10-0 on the season with seven bonus wins and is riding a 25-match winning streak.

Morris and Wells both finished third at the Midwest, each going 6-1 in the two-day tourney.

Morris, 13-1 with eight bonus wins on the season, avenged a quarterfinal loss with a consolation finals win over Tiffin's now No. 6 Anthony Aniciete. Wells, 10-1 with five bonus victories, fell to now-No. 2 Matt Weinberg of Kutztown in the semifinals.

Lucas and Brown each placed fifth at the Midwest, while Jump was sixth and Rolle seventh.
