Central Oklahoma Wraps Up Road Trip In Wichita

Bronchos Take On Newman Saturday Afternoon

WICHITA, Kan. – Central Oklahoma wraps up a three-game road trip Saturday afternoon when the Bronchos take on Newman in an MIAA matchup.
 
Central Oklahoma is 14-6 on the season with a 6-6 record in the MIAA. The Jets from Wichita are 6-11 overall and 3-9 in league play.
 
UCO is looking to snap a rare three-game losing streak – the first since 2021. The Bronchos were upset at home by Rogers State before losing the first two road games of the current three-game trip at Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western.
 
The Bronchos head to Newman averaging 76.9 points per game this season through 20 games this season. UCO shoots 45.4 percent from the floor, 36.2 percent from behind the arc with 7.9 makes per game, and 74.3 percent from the free-throw line with an average of 14.9 makes per game.
 
Jaden Wells leads Central Oklahoma in scoring averaging 18.5 points per game. Wells leads UCO in nearly every category – minutes per game (31.5), field goals made (115), field goals attempted (290), 3-pointers made (58), 3-pointers attempted (155), free-throws made (82), free-throws attempted (90), and steals (38).
 
Danquez Dawsey is Central's second-leading scorer at 13.8 points per game and the junior point guard adds to the offense with 117 total assists in 20 games, an average of 5.8 per game. Dawsey has ranked in the top five in the country in both total assists and assists per game all season. He is currently second in the country in total assists and tied for fifth in assists per game. Dawsey also adds 4.1 rebounds per game this season.
 
Luke Haasl adds 9.3 points per game and a team-high 5.5 rebounds per game. He leads the team in blocked shots too at 34 through 20 games played. Haasl shoots 62.5 percent from the floor, making 80 of 128 shots on the season.
 
Jalyn Turner is averaging 5.2 points and 2.6 rebounds per game and Preston Aymond is averaging 3.7 points and 4.6 rebounds to round out the starting lineup's performance this season.
 
Mike Quick Jr. leads the production off the bench. The sophomore guard is averaging 9.2 points per game in his second season with the Bronchos. He adds 2.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. Majok Majouk, also a sophomore, is averaging 5.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game. And Matthew Willenborg, a freshman, is averaging 4.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game in his first season on campus.
 
Newman's last win came in overtime against Fort Hays State in December. The Jets have lost six in a row since that game. Newman averages 72.6 points per game this season and shoots 43.4 percent from the floor. NU shoots 25.8 percent from behind the arc with 8.1 makes per game and 70.4 percent from the free-throw line with 12.9 makes per game.
 
Stevie Strong leads three players in double figures at 15.3 points per game. Stevie Smith scores 12.9 points per game and Latik Murphy adds 10.5 points per game. Sam Somerhalder, who leads the team in rebounds at 5.0 per game, averages 9.8 points per game.
 
Central Oklahoma has 10 games left in the regular season, five at home and five on the road. The Bronchos return home next week to host Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern. At 6-6, UCO is currently in seventh place in the MIAA. The top 10 teams make the postseason tournament in March in Kansas City.
