Jaden Wells & Danquez Dawsey Named To Bevo Francis Top 100

Central Oklahoma's Top Players Recognized At Midpoint Of 2023-24 Season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Small College Basketball awards committee announced its annual Bevo Francis Award Top 100 watch list Monday and two Central Oklahoma hoopsters made the list in Jaden Wells and Danquez Dawsey.
 
The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season, according to Small College Basketball's website. Considerations will be season statistics and individual achievements, awards, personal character and team achievements.
 
Wells was named to the Top 100 last year and later the Top 50. The fourth-year junior shooting guard leads Central Oklahoma in minutes played, field goals made and attempted, 3-pointers made and attempted, free-throws made and attempted, as well as steals.
 
Dawsey is being recognized for the first time amid a breakout season. The true junior point guard is second on the team in minutes played, field goals made and attempted, 3-pointers made and attempted, free-throws made and attempted, as well as steals.
 
Central Oklahoma is 14-4 this season with a 6-4 record in the MIAA. The Bronchos are ranked No. 17 in the country in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Top 25, and No. 23 in the country in the Division II College Sports Communicators Top 25. UCO plays at Northwest Missouri State Thursday night and will also take on Missouri Western Saturday afternoon in the first two of a three-game road trip. The Bronchos visit Newman the following Saturday before returning to Hamilton Field House in February.
 
Wells leads Central Oklahoma with an 18.4 points per game average after 18 games played this season. The Hurst, Texas native ranks third in the MIAA in scoring this season. Wells ranks 12th in the country in points scored (331) and is second in 3-point attempts (144) and seventh in 3-point makes (52). He also ranks 11th in steals (37) in the country.
 
Wells' standout season has also been filled with career highlights. Wells has scored 1,545 points in his career and is up to No. 6 on UCO's all-time scoring list. He started the year 24th on that historic list. Wells also became the school's all-time 3-point leader. He ranks No. 1 in school history in both makes (278) and attempts (698) for a career.
 
Wells also ranks fifth in career field goals made (491), fourth in career field goals attempted (1,161), and fifth in career steals (152).
 
Dawsey started his career with the Bronchos playing reserve minutes his freshman season. As a sophomore, he became a starter and flourished, leading UCO back to the national tournament. But this season, the Lawton, Oklahoma native has taken his game to another level.
 
Dawsey is averaging 14.4 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game, putting together one of the better all-around seasons in the country. Dawsey leads the country in total assists (114) and ranks fifth in assists per game (6.3). He is also among the best in the country with a 3.15 assist-turnover ratio.
 
The awards committee will announce the Top 50 watch list February 15 and the Top 25 March 15. Finalists will be announced April 1 with the winner being announced April 6.
