Deramus, White Take Top MIAA Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 2) – Shortstop Emily Deramus was named Freshman of the Year and Cody White nabbed Coach of the Year recognition to highlight a parade of Central Oklahoma honorees on the All-MIAA Softball Team that was released Tuesday morning by the league office.

Deramus was joined on the first-team All-MIAA squad by third baseman Shayla Harper, outfielder Jacee Minter and utility/non-pitcher Tatum Long, while pitcher Jordyn Pipkin, catcher Amelya Huggins and utility/pitcher Terin Ritz earned second-team honors.

Second baseman Mikayla Rutland and outfielder Rylee Lemos were Gold Glove selections for their defensive prowess, with Lemos also named an honorable mention All-MIAA pick.

Deramus stepped into a starting role from the outset and has enjoyed a fabulous season with the Bronchos. The rookie from Edmond is batting .371 with 18 doubles, nine home runs, four triples and 41 runs batted entering this week's MIAA Tournament.

White claimed Coach of the Year honors for the third time after leading UCO to its fifth MIAA regular season championship. The 10th-year head coach has guided the Bronchos to four of those titles and is now 392-143 at the helm.

Harper made the first-team unit after garnering second-team accolades last year. The senior from Durant is batting a team-high .403 with 12 homers, seven doubles, three triples and 49 RBI.

Minter picked up first-team honors for the second straight season. The junior from Edmond has a .346 average to go along with 11 doubles, nine homers and 39 RBI.

Long has seen action at first base and designated player this season. The Enid junior transferred to UCO this season after playing the past two years at Wichita State is hitting .274 with 13 doubles, six homers and 34 RBI.

Pipkin also came to the Bronchos from Wichita State and the sophomore from Jenks has been a mainstay in the circle all season. She's 19-2 with a 1.84 earned run average and has thrown 13 complete games.

Huggins was a first-team All-MIAA pick last year and is in her fourth year at UCO. The senior from Mustang is batting .331 with 15 doubles, four homers and 30 RBI.

Ritz has been a standout at the plate and in the circle for the Bronchos this spring. The sophomore from Edmond is 17-1 with a 2.20 ERA while also carrying a .364 average with nine homers and 42 RBI.

Lemos has a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 70 putouts and three assists from her right field spot. The Coffeyville, Okla. rookie is hitting .331 with 15 doubles and 14 stolen bases.

Rutland is a key to UCO's stellar infield defense, with the senior from Dale having committed just two errors in 168 fielding chances. She's also hitting .257 with six homers and 26 RBI.
