UCO Finishes Regional Play

WINONA, Minn. (May 13) – Central Oklahoma closed with a trio of 73s to finish play in the NCAA Division II Central/Midwest Regional that wrapped up Saturday.

Caleb Kimmel, Evan Griffith and Ross Taylor all shot 73 on the final day for the Bronchos, who closed with a 294 to finish 12th with an 889 total in the three-day, 54-hole tournament at the 6,788-yard, par-71 The Bridges Golf Club.

Bennett Baldwin added a 75 and Kyle Hickey a 77 for UCO in the final event of the season.

"We didn't play our best this week, but I'm proud of our guys for the year we had," said second-year head coach Derrick Thompson, whose team had top-six finishes in nine of 12 events in 2022-23. "We did a lot of good things and I think the future is bright for our program with everybody coming back next year."

Kimmel made four bogeys against a lone birdie in shooting a three-over 39 on the front nine. The junior opened his last nine holes with six pars, then birdied the par-4 16th before finishing with a pair of pars in rallying for a closing 34.

Griffith opened with a birdie on the par-4 first hole, then reeled off eight consecutive pars in firing a one-under 35 on the front nine. The junior dropped back to even par with a bogey on No. 11, then shots at Nos. 15 and 18 for a 73.

Taylor started his round with six straight pars before birdieing the par-4 seventh. He double bogeyed No. 8 and bogeyed No. 9 to make the turn at two-over 38, then had seven pars, one birdie and one back for an even-par 35 in carding his 73.
