Bronchos Fall In Opener At UCM

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – A two-out error in the bottom of the eighth allowed the game-winning run to score in Central Oklahoma's 5-4 loss at No. 4 Central Missouri Friday afternoon in the first of three MIAA games on the weekend for the Bronchos.

UCO erased an early 3-0 deficit and tied the game 4-4 with a solo home run from Kaleb Glass in the top of the eighth inning, but with two outs in the bottom half, UCM had a triple to right center. A groundball to shortstop followed and Orlando Gonzalez had trouble fielding it cleanly. His throw to first was late and UCM scored to take a 5-4 lead.

Jacob Bailey was credited with the loss, though his only run allowed was unearned.

Central Oklahoma and Central Missouri will play Game 2 Saturday at noon before wrapping up the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m.

UCM scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning Friday off UCO starter Diego Dominguez. A leadoff solo homer was followed by another Gonzalez error. A walk and stolen base preceded an RBI groundout, then an RBI double made it 3-0.

The Bronchos got one back in the top of the third. Gonzalez led off with a single to left and moved to second when Noah Olson was hit by a pitch with two outs. Both of them advanced on a wild pitch before Jaden Parsons drew a walk and Cameron Uselton was also hit by a pitch to score Gonzalez.

UCM answered with a one-out homer in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead.

The Bronchos kept pushing back though. A two-out rally in the top of the fourth chased UCM starter Colton Wolf. Gonzalez singled again and Aiden Proctor did too to force the Mules bullpen to take over. Glass singled after that and Olson drew a bases-loaded walk to give UCO its second run of the game. Parsons also drew a bases-loaded walk after that and made it 4-3.

The game remained 4-3 until the top of the eighth inning when Glass belted a solo home run with two outs on a full count to tie the game, 4-4.

Dominguez threw six innings on the day, giving up four runs on seven hits and five walks. He struck out one batter. Bailey came on and threw two innings, striking out three batters. He allowed two hits and one unearned run.

Glass and Gonzalez both had two hits in the game. Proctor, Olson, Parsons, Wyatt Gray and Trevor Stevens all had one hit each.
