UCO Falls In Finale

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma dropped the season series to Pittsburg State following a 9-5 loss Sunday in the final game of the three-game MIAA matchup.

UCO fell to 22-11 overall on the season with the loss and the Bronchos are now 11-9 in the MIAA.

"We had our chances in both of the games we lost this weekend," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "We were close on Friday night in a high-scoring game and we were close today too, but we didn't get it done. If we can become more consistent and play like we did on Saturday, we'll be in a better position than we are now.

"But we'll move on and refocus," Martin continued. "We have a Tuesday midweek and then we start our series a day early next weekend, so you have to put this one behind you and move on from it."

UCO jumped out to a 1-0 lead Sunday afternoon, but soon faced a 7-1 deficit. The Bronchos chipped away at the lead, and had the tying run at the plate in the eighth inning, but couldn't get the offense it needed at the right time.

Aiden Proctor went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and Wyatt Gray went 2-for-5 with a single and a double to lead the UCO offense. Noah Olson was 1-for-4 with a solo home run and Orlando Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with a sole homer – both to leadoff an inning. Landen Wood has Central's only other hit in the game.

Central Oklahoma used seven pitchers on Sunday.

Grant Zwald got the start but was removed after 2 2/3 innings pitched. He gave up four runs on five hits and four walks on the day. He did also strikeout three batters.

Jase Farmer threw 2/3 of an inning in relief, allowing two runs on one hit and a walk. Bradan Pierce threw 1 2/3 and gave up one run on one hit and a walk. And Racer Felter threw 1 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on one hit and two walks. All three struck out one batter.

Marcos Lopez threw 1/3 of an inning, Jacob Bailey added one, and Valek Cisneros threw one as well. Bailey and Cisneros struck out two batters each in the eighth and ninth innings respectively.

Proctor led off the bottom of the first with a single up the middle and moved to second base when Seth Gray drew a walk. Proctor then stole third and scored on a Jaden Parsons groundout to give UCO the 1-0 lead.

In the sixth, Olson led off with his team-leading ninth home run of the season to make it 7-2. Wyatt Gray soon followed with a two-out ground-rule double to left center and Wood followed that with an RBI single to left field to make it 7-3.

Gonzalez led off the bottom of the seventh with his fourth home run of the season to make it 9-4. Then another groundout by Parsons scored Proctor to make it 9-5.

Central Oklahoma visits Oklahoma Christian in Oklahoma City on Tuesday evening for a midweek non-conference game. The Bronchos are back home to host Washburn on Thursday in the first of three MIAA games with the Ichabods at Wendell Simmons Field. The three-game series is being played Thursday, Friday and Saturday for the Easter holiday.
