Bronchos Beat Bulldogs In Midweek Clash

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – No. 10 Central Oklahoma beat Southwestern Oklahoma State 4-2 on Tuesday in a non-conference midweek matchup between longtime rivals.

Central improved to 15-3 on the season with the win. The Bronchos, which are 5-1 in the MIAA, are back to conference play this weekend with a three-game series at Missouri Southern scheduled to begin Friday in Joplin.

Tuesday, UCO jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning when three consecutive singles followed a walk. Matt Baughn drew the leadoff walk before Aiden Proctor, Cameron Uselton, and Jaden Parsons all knocked one-out singles through the Southwestern defense.

Baughn and Proctor scored on Uselton and Parsons's base hits, and then Uselton scored on a sacrifice fly from Austin Lambert.

SWOSU responded with two back in the bottom half of the inning, both on one swing of the bat. A two-RBI double given up by starter Diego Dominguez made it 3-2.

Central added one more in the seventh. Seth Gray was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Baughn. Proctor followed with an RBI single through the left side to score Gray and give UCO a 4-2 lead in the game.

Proctor was one of four Bronchos with two hits on Tuesday. Parsons, Lambert and Orlando Gonzalez also had two hits. Uselton had one to give the Bronchos nine in the game.

Dominguez got the start for UCO and threw three innings on the hill. He gave up two runs on six hits but didn't walk a batter and struck out two. Grant Zwald came on in relief and also threw three innings. Zwald gave up just two hits and a walk and had two strikeouts and picked up the win.

Jacob Bailey came out of the bullpen as well and threw two innings of scoreless baseball. He walked two batters and gave up one hit. Valek Cisneros earned the save, throwing a scoreless ninth inning. He struck out the first two batters he faced and then got a groundout back to the mound for the 27th out.
