Bronchos Clip 'Hawks in Tahlequah

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Central Oklahoma kept a pesky Northeastern State rally short Tuesday night and picked up a 10-9 MIAA win.

The Bronchos improved to 21-9 overall on the year with the win and 10-7 in the MIAA. UCO earned the season series win against NSU as well after beating the Riverhawks in Edmond a few weeks ago. The two play the third and final game April 11 in Tahlequah.

"While we didn't want the ninth inning to go like it did, that also helped us learn how to finish the game," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "We played really well early in the game and found a way to get the win and we'll take it."

UCO led 8-1 going to the bottom of the eighth inning, then 10-4 going to the bottom of the ninth inning. A late rally by the hosts cut it to one run, 10-9, with the winning run at the plate before the final out was made.

Diego Dominguez picked up the win for the Bronchos, throwing seven innings on the bump. He allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk. He struck out five batters on the night.

Jase Farmer came on and threw 2/3 of an inning and only allowed one hit. Jacob Bailey threw 2/3 of an inning and gave up three runs (two earned) on one hit and two walks. Valek Cisneros finished the game with the final 2/3 innings and gave up two runs on three hits.

The Broncho pitching staff got just enough help.

Noah Olson and Wyatt Gray both went 3-for-5, with Olson, who had a double, also scoring two runs. UCO's top five hitters in the lineup – Aiden Proctor, Seth Gray, Olson, and Jaden Parsons – went 8-for-18 with eight runs scored.

Uselton, the fifth batter in the lineup, went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run. He also had a sacrifice fly to finish the game with four RBIs.

Proctor scored in the top of the first inning when Parsons reached on a bases loaded fielder's choice. Uselton followed with his sac-fly to score Seth Gray and give the Bronchos a 2-0 lead.

In the third, Uselton hit his fifth home run of the season, scoring Parsons and Olson to give the Bronchos a 5-0 lead.

Seth Gray made it 6-1 in the fourth, when he reached on a fielder's choice and scored Shae Morrison.

In the sixth, Seth Gray was at it again, singling to left field to score Proctor and give the Bronchos a 7-1 lead. He scored to make it 8-1 when Olson reached on a throwing error by the NSU second baseman.

After NSU scored three in the eighth, Wyatt Gray added a bases loaded single to center field that because of another NSU error, scored Parsons and Olson and gave the Bronchos a 10-4 lead.

NSU scored on a UCO error in the ninth, then an RBI double, and then a sacrifice fly. With two outs, a two-run home run made it 10-9 before Cisneros recorded the final out with a fly ball to left field.

Central Oklahoma returns home from a five-game road trip this weekend. The Bronchos are scheduled to take on Pittsburg State for a three-game MIAA series beginning Friday night at Wendell Simmons Field.
