Bronchos Outpace Jets In Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. – Central Oklahoma outlasted Newman Saturday in a wild high scoring affair that ended 19-11 in favor of the Bronchos.
 
UCO evened the series with Newman, 1-1, after a setback on Friday afternoon. The two schools will meet Sunday at 1 p.m. in the third and final game of the series.
 
Central Oklahoma led 10-0 in the game heading to the bottom of the fourth inning. UCO scored five runs in one inning twice, and four in an inning another time. The Bronchos combined for 17 hits in the game, including two doubles, two triples, and two home runs.
 
Landen Wood led the way, going 5-for-5 in the game. Seth Gray and Cameron Uselton both went 3-for-5, with both hitting a double and Uselton adding two homers. Shae Morrison went 2-for-6 with six RBIs and Orlando Gonzalez went 2-for-6 with three RBIs.
 
Noah Olson and Jaden Parsons both added one hit, with Olson knocking an RBI triple.
 
UCO built a huge 10-0 lead in the game. The Bronchos scored five in the second inning, with Morrison pelting a grand slam to give the Bronchos a 4-0 lead. Olson followed with his RBI triple later in the inning to give the Bronchos a 5-0 lead.
 
Gonzalez made it 7-0 in the third with a two-RBI single that scored Wood and Wyatt Gray. Gonzalez then scored on a Newman error when Aiden Proctor reached. Proctor scored on Seth Gray's single to make it 9-0, UCO in the third inning.
 
The 10-0 lead came in the fourth when Uselton led off the inning with a solo home run.
 
Newman got three back in the bottom of the fourth, but the Bronchos were right back at it in the fifth, putting up three more runs. Uselton drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Seth Gray, then Wood hit a two-RBI single to left field to score Olson and Parsons and give the Bronchos a 13-3 lead.
 
Newman put up a five spot in the fifth inning, then after UCO added one more with Uselton's second solo homer in the top of the seventh, the host Jets scored three more in the bottom of the eighth to cut the UCO lead to three, 14-11.
 
UCO added five more in the ninth to put the game away. Seth Gray scored on a bases-loaded walk Wood drew. Then Uselton scored on a passed ball. A two-RBI triple by Morrison followed to score Wood and Wyatt Gray. And Morrison scored when Gonzalez singled to left and gave UCO a 19-11 lead in the game.
 
Central Oklahoma used five pitchers in the game. Caleb Burchfield started and threw 3 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks. Only one of his runs were earned and Burchfield struck out two batters.
 
Grant Zwald threw one inning of relief work, giving up four earned runs on three hits and a walk. Jeb Jenkins threw 1/3 of an inning after that and gave up one run on two hits.
 
Jacob Bailey came in and threw 2 2/3 innings, striking out five Newman batters during his outing. He gave up three runs on two hits and a walk. Valek Cisneros threw the final 1 1/3 for the Bronchos and retired each of the four batters he faced.
