Shayla Harper Named MIAA Hitter of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Shayla Harper was named MIAA Hitter of the Week Monday following a big weekend on the diamond for the University of Central Oklahoma senior standout.

Harper led the sixth-ranked Bronchos to a sweep of Northern State in the Bronchos only games of the week. UCO played in Tahlequah after the annual MIAA/NSIC Crossover Challenge in Joplin, Mo. was canceled due to inclement weather.

Harper hit .667 with three homers and eight RBIs in the two games. The third baseman from Durant, Oklahoma had a two-run homer in UCO's 10-2 first-game rout, then hit a grand slam and a two-run homer in a six-RBI outing during the second game. She was taken out of the game as UCO put subbed nearly its entire lineup in the 13-1 victory.

Harper is hitting .385 this season in 23 games played – and started. She has 25 hits, two doubles, two triples, and five homers. Harper has scored 26 runs and has 21 RBIs.

Central Oklahoma returns to MIAA play this weekend when the Bronchos visit Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri for back-to-back MIAA doubleheaders in Missouri.
