Bronchos Beat NSU In Midweek MIAA Clash

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma beat Northeastern State Tuesday in a midweek MIAA matchup at Wendell Simmons Field, with the Bronchos outpacing the Riverhawks 10-7.

UCO, which snapped a rare, three-game losing streak, is now 16-6 on the season with the win. The Bronchos are 6-4 in the MIAA. Northeastern fell to 10-11 overall and 4-6 in league play.

"We found a way to get it done," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "Our pitching gave up more than we'd like, but the guys rallied behind them and got enough run support to get the win."

Northeastern State took a 1-0 lead in the game Tuesday and after UCO responded with two runs in the third, tied it 2-2 in the top of the fourth. But the Bronchos put up all 10 of their runs Tuesday in the middle five innings of the game, outmatching reliever after reliever for the Riverhawks.

UCO had eight hits in the game with two apiece from Seth Gray and Wyatt Gray. Trevor Stevens, Noah Olson, Jaden Parsons and Landen Wood all had hits too. Wyatt's leadoff double in the third inning was the only extra base hit of the game for the Bronchos.

Central used eight pitchers on Tuesday in what was a bullpen affair for the Bronchos. Diego Dominguez got the start and threw three innings, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk. He struck out three in the start.

Braden Pierce followed with one inning and struck out all three batters he faced. Grant Zwald also threw one inning and gave up a hit and a walk, but no runs.

Jacob Savage appeared in the game but didn't record an out while giving up three runs on two hits in sixth. Jeb Jenkins followed Savage and gave up two more runs on one hit in 1/3 inning.

Jase Farmer, Jacob Bailey, and Valek Cisneros threw the final 3 2/3 innings and kept NSU off the scoreboard during that stretch. Cisneros struck out two in the ninth to close out the game and pick up his third save of the season.

Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State will play their three-game MIAA series over the course of four weeks. The two meet again March 28 and April 11, with both of those meetings taking place in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

The Bronchos return to action this weekend with another MIAA series. UCO hosts Fort Hays State Friday at 5 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Wendell Simmons Field.
