Bronchos Downed Again

JOPLIN, Mo. – An early rally for the Bronchos turned out to be not enough as No. 5 Central Oklahoma lost its second game in as many days at Missouri Southern on Saturday.

UCO lost 5-4, which was the same tally on Friday night. The Bronchos will attempt to avoid the sweep Sunday afternoon in the final game of the three-game MIAA series.

Central Oklahoma scored three in the top of the first and took a 4-0 lead in the second, but Missouri Southern chipped away before taking its only lead of the game on the final play of the game – a walkoff RBI single through the right side in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Chris Spry got the start for UCO and gave up three runs in 4 1/3 innings of work. He gave up seven hits and walked one batter. Jeb Jenkins came out of the bullpen in relief and threw 1 2/3 innings, allowing the game-tying run on a solo home run to left in the bottom of the sixth.

Jacob Bailey came on in relief for Jenkins and finished the game. He allowed the unearned run to score with two outs in the bottom of the ninth on the single from the Southern's Ethan Clark.

Landen Wood scored the first run of the day for the Bronchos when Austin Lambert stole second in the top of the first inning. Wood was a pinch runner for Kaleb Glass, who led off the game with a single and then stole second. Lambert singled to right field to get Wood to third before he scored on the steal.

Orlando Gonzalez singled to score Lambert and Jaden Parsons did too to score Shae Morrison, who reached on an error by the Southern first baseman between Lambert and Gonzalez in the lineup.

Noah Olson added the fourth run on one swing of the bat in the second, belting a leadoff solo home run to right on the first pitch of the inning.

Central Oklahoma had two more hits in the second but couldn't get another run across. The Bronchos had six more in the game but remained stuck on four runs.
