Bronchos Downed By Bison

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma dropped a non-conference matchup 5-4 to Oklahoma Baptist Wednesday night at Wendell Simmons Field.

UCO, which debuted at No. 13 in the NCBWA Top 25 earlier Wednesday, is now 7-2 on the season after two and a half weeks of play. Oklahoma Baptist, a team UCO handed a 5-3 loss to two weeks ago in Edmond, is now 3-3 on the season.

"We got in a bad spot early," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "They got out to an early lead. We did good defensively after that, but we put ourselves in a bad spot early. OBU is a good team and you can't get behind like that."

Oklahoma Baptist got a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. UCO answered back. Aiden Proctor drew a one-out walk, stole a base, and scored on a Seth Gray single to right field to cut the lead in half.

OBU though, came back with one more in the top of the second and another in the top of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.

Gray and Proctor helped again in the fifth. Proctor drew a walk again, stole second, and scored on Gray's groundout to make it 4-2.

The Bronchos came back to tied the game in the seventh.

Orlando Gozalez was hit by a pitch, stole second, and moved to third on a Jaden Parsons single. Gonzalez scored on an OBU throwing error, then Matt Baughn's groundout scored Parsons to tie the game, 4-4.

OBU though would get one in the top of the ninth to put the game away. A leadoff hit by pitch was followed by a single, then a balk. A wild pitch from Jacob Bailey allowed the winning run to score.

Central Oklahoma scattered just four hits in the game. Three of them came from Jaden Parsons

UCO is off this weekend but will be back next week for another non-conference game against Southern Nazarene. It will be the first road game of the season for the Bronchos, who travel to Bethany Tuesday at 1 p.m.
