No. 10 UCO Hosts Rogers State

EDMOND – No. 10 Central Oklahoma hosts Rogers State Wednesday night in an MIAA matchup at Hamilton Field House. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
 
UCO is 21-3 on the season and ranked No. 10 in the country in the latest NABC national poll. The Bronchos are also ranked No. 9 in the country in the D2SIDA national rankings. Central Oklahoma has a 15-3 record in the MIAA and the Bronchos sit second in the league standings with two weeks left in the regular season.
 
"The guys are looking forward to getting back on the floor after last week's loss," UCO head men's basketball coach Bob Hoffman said. "They're focused. And we need to be. It's the time of the year when you have to be focused on every single game."
 
Rogers State comes to Edmond with a 13-11 overall record and a 9-9 record in the MIAA. The Hillcats from Claremore, Oklahoma are eighth in the league standings.
 
The two schools, separated by 125 miles on Interstate 44, played earlier this season in Claremore. UCO won 85-74 on January 7 to improve to 5-4 in the brief all-time series with RSU.
 
Central Oklahoma welcomes Rogers State to Edmond for the second game of the season series averaging 76.6 points per game. The Bronchos lead the MIAA in scoring and do so shooting 46.3 percent from the field. UCO shoots 34.5 percent from behind the 3-point line and 76.5 percent from the free-throw line.
 
Jaden Wells continues to lead UCO in scoring at 17.7 points per game. The third-year sophomore sharpshooter is making 45.5 percent of his total shots this season, 44.4 percent of his 3-point attempts with an even 3.0 makes per game average, and 88.4 percent of his free-throw attempts. Wells also averages 4.3 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 1.3 assists per game all in 31.1 minutes per game this season.
 
Camryn Givens is averaging 14.1 points per game to go with 5.9 rebounds per game, second on the team in both categories. He is shooting an even 50 percent from the field, 36.9 percent from behind the arc, and 81.1 percent from the free-throw line.
 
Curtis Haywood adds 12.5 points per game, a team-high 6.2 rebounds per game, and plenty of everything else. The do-it-all senior forward averages 3.9 assists per game, 2.2 steals per game, and 0.8 blocks per game. He ranks in the top 10 in the MIAA in rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. Haywood is a 41.1 percent shooter overall and an 87.4 percent free-throw shooter.
 
Preston Aymond and Luke Haasl have combined to put up big numbers for the Broncho posts. Aymond is averaging 7.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks. Haasl is averaging 6.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and a league-high 1.5 rebounds per game.
 
Danquez Dawsey is averaging 5.3 points per game, 2.4 rebounds per game, and 1.5 assists per game, and Jalyn Turner is averaging 4.3 points per game, 2.4 rebounds per game, and 1.2 assists per game as the two help out the effort for the Bronchos.
 
Rogers State comes to Edmond averaging 72.2 points per game this season and has a narrow 0.3 average margin of victory allowing 71.9 points per game from its opponents. Joey Saracco leads the Hillcats in scoring at 13.9 points per game while Chris Whitaker is a close second at 13.6 points per game. Both have played in all 24 games for Rogers State this season and have started 23 games. Saracco is also the team's leading rebounder at 6.6 boards per game.
 
Central Oklahoma plays Rogers State Wednesday night, then Northeastern State in the home finale on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. UCO will visit No. 3 Northwest Missouri on Thursday, Feb. 23 and then wrap up the 2022-23 regular season at Newman on Saturday, Feb. 25.
