Bronchos Beat Up Mary In Finale

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma made a late surge in a 16-6 eight-inning run-rule victory over Mary Sunday in the fourth game of the non-conference series at Wendell Simmons Field.

UCO won the series 3-1 after dropping the opener Friday afternoon and rallying with three straight wins over the weekend.

"We found a way," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "It wasn't pretty at times, but we kept battling and got it done."

Central Oklahoma and Mary traded blows throughout the first half of the game. Mary scored in the top of the first, the Bronchos responded. Mary scored again in the second, UCO responded again. The same for the fourth inning.

Mary held a 6-3 lead going to the bottom of the fourth. The Bronchos cut it to one, 6-5, with their response in that inning. Then the UCO bullpen shut it down.

Mary had only two hits after the fourth inning and couldn't get any more runs past. The Bronchos rallied late to take the lead, then blew it open after that.

Aiden Proctor scored the tying run in the sixth. He was hit by a pitch, then moved to third on a ground-rule double from Cameron Uselton. What seemed like a sure run held Proctor at third. Then Seth Gray struck out but a dropped third strike kept the play alive. Mary threw to first to get Gray out, and did, but Proctor scored from third on the throw and tied the game, 6-6.

Then the Broncho bats came alive. Proctor drilled a two-RBI double off the wall in deep center field to score Kaleb Glass and Wyatt Gray. Then Seth  Gray tripled to right field to score Uselton and Proctor. Noah Olson followed with a two-run home run to center field, scoring Seth  Gray. The six-run inning gave the Bronchos a 12-6 lead.

UCO added four more for the run-rule in the eighth. Glass hit a two-RBI single through the left side to score Landen Wood and Wyatt  Gray. Proctor singled to score Glass. And Uselton singled up the middle to score Proctor for the walkoff victory.

Central started Marcos Lopez in the game and the right-handed newcomer threw four innings. He gave up six runs on eight hits and a walk but did strikeout five Mary batters.

Braden Pierce led the turn out of the bullpen. He threw two innings, allowing almost nothing with two strikeouts. Valek Cisneros followed and gave up two hits but didn't give up anything more. He had one strikeout. Then Jacob Bailey came on in the eighth and got the last three outs UCO needed, including one strikeout, to close out the game.

Glass led the offense, going 4-for-6 with four runs and three RBIs. He also stole three bases. Proctor, Uselton, Seth  Gray, Orlando Gonzalez, and Wyatt  Gray all had two hits. Olson and Wood had one each.

Central Oklahoma continues an extended homestand to begin the season Wednesday when the Bronchos take on Oklahoma Baptist Wednesday at 5 p.m.
