Jaden Wells & Danquez Dawsey Named To All-Tournament Team

Central Oklahoma Duo Led Bronchos To 2-0 Weekend At Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic

LAKELAND, Fla. – Jaden Wells and Danquez Dawsey were named to the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic All-Tournament Team, it was announced Sunday following the conclusion of the 10-games in two-days affair at Florida Southern.
 
Central Oklahoma went 2-0 at the tournament that featured six teams ranked in the Top 25 and three more receiving votes in the national coaches' poll. The No. 9 ranked Bronchos beat No. 25 Mercyhurst on Saturday before out-pacing Cedarville on Sunday.
 
Wells scored 49 points in two games in Florida, leading the Bronchos to impressive start to the 2023-24 season. The fourth-year junior shot 59.1 percent from the field, hitting 13 of 22 total shots. He sank 10 of 16 3-pointers for a stout 62.5 percent, and 13 of 14 free-throws for a 92.9 rate.
 
Wells scored 20 in 24 minutes in the win over Mercyhurst and 29 points in 29 minutes in the win over Cedarville. Wells also did it on both ends with eight steals on the weekend.
 
Wells also moved up the charts on a couple of UCO basketball lists this weekend. He moved from No. 24 to No. 21 on the all-time scoring list with 1,263 career points and is only one point shy of the Top 20. He also moved up to No. 2 in UCO history with 236 made 3-pointers in his career.
 
Dawsey had a big opening weekend for the Bronchos. The junior guard played at a big level in a lot of ways. Dawsey averaged 18 points, five rebounds, five assists, and one steal per game in Florida. He shot 52.4 percent from the field, making 11 of 21 shots. He shot 57.1 percent from 3-point range, going 4-for-7 from outside.
 
Dawsey also was key in going 10-for-12 from the free-throw line this weekend, making big free-throws in UCO's win over Cedarville on Sunday, when he also had two steals.
 
Dawsey went for 16 points, six rebounds, five assists on Saturday, and 20 points, four boards, five assists on Sunday.

Central Oklahoma returns home Monday, but will make another weekend road trip to Tahlequah next week. The Bronchos take on Mary (N.D.) Friday and Northwestern Oklahoma State Saturday as part of the Central Region Challenge at Northeastern State in Tahlequah. Both games tip off at 3 p.m.
 
UCO plays its first home game of the 2023-24 season Sunday, Nov. 19 at 5 p.m. against Southwestern Christian at Hamilton Field House.
