Bronchos Roll Over Emporia State

EMPORIA, Kan. (Nov. 4) – A devastating offensive attack led No. 17-ranked Central Oklahoma to a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rout of Emporia State Saturday night.

The Bronchos hit a season-high .441 in thumping the Hornets 25-15, 25-10, 25-17 to complete a two-day, two-match road sweep. UCO, which rallied past Washburn in five sets Friday, moved to 24-4 with its 11th win in 12 outings and is tied for second in the conference at 15-3.

"I was a little worried how we would respond coming off such a tough win last night, but we played pretty well tonight," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "Our offense was really good and everybody was ready to play."

Lari Migliorino and Mallorie Koehn both hit .500-plus to lead the unstoppable offensive assault. Migliorino had 10 kills in just 15 attacks with two errors for a .533 attack percentage and added five blocks (one solo, four assisted), while Koehn hit .529 with nine kills and no miscues in 17 attempts.

Sydney Huck knocked down 10 kills, with Addison Wimmer and Jenna Karp chipping in eight apiece. Lindsey Houran keyed the offense from her setter post, handing out 40 assists to go along with five digs and three kills.

Jaedynn Evans (16 digs) and Kaitlyn Parrott (12) paced UCO's back-row defense.

The Bronchos led 3-2 in the first set before Migliorino nailed back-to-back kills and teamed with Huck for a block in a 4-1 run that made it 7-2. UCO pulled away from there for an easy 10-point win.

Central took control early again in the second set, scoring four unanswered points on two kills from Koehn and one each from Huck and Karp to turn a 3-3 tie into a 7-3 lead en route to a dominating 15-point romp.

Emporia was within 12-10 in the third set when Wimmer hammered down consecutive kills to ignite a 5-0 run that made it 17-10 and the Bronchos cruised in from there to complete their 16th sweep of the season.

UCO finishes up the regular season next weekend with a pair of home matches, hosting Missouri Western Friday and Northwest Missouri Saturday.
